- 'Painted Lady' is a highly regarded 19th-century heirloom climber known for its stunning bicolour coral-red and creamy-white blossoms and dual-purpose edible pods and beans.
- It grows 2–3 meters high, making it an excellent ornamental screen that attracts hummingbirds while producing thick, sweet, 20cm pods.
Culinary Uses
- The flowers are edible, with a mild, sweet, somewhat “beany” flavor.
- They are excellent to use in salads and as garnishes.
- The young beans are also edible.
- Pick pods when young for the best quality.
- Can be steamed and eaten as you would any green bean.
