Sheep Sorrel - Rumex acetosa

An acidic herb with astringent cooling and diuretic properties.

People use sorrel for breast cancer, bronchitis, swelling in the sinuses, and other conditions.

Sorrel is a great source of antioxidants, which are beneficial compounds that protect your cells from damage by neutralizing harmful free radicals. Antioxidants may help prevent many chronic conditions, including heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes.

Other possible uses:

  • sorrel may block the growth and spread of certain types of cancer cells - Sheep Sorrel is best known as an ingredient of "essiac tea" an anti-cancer remedy.
  • Inflamed nasal passage (sinusitis) & Bronchitis - Some research suggests that taking a specific product that contains sorrel, gentian root, European elderflower, verbena, and cowslip flower by mouth for up to 14 days improves symptoms of sinusitis, such as congestion and headache and may improve cough and other symptoms of bronchitis.
  • Fluid retention
  • Infections

Warning: Sorrel is possibly unsafe when consumed in large amounts. Large amounts might increase the risk of developing kidney stones, or damage the liver or stomach. All types of sorrels are acidic - may cause problems with people that suffers from Arthritis and Gout.
