  • Perennial
  • The Hausa Potato is widespread in tropical Asia, from India to the Philippines and commonly cultivated there.
  • It was introduced to tropical Africa, where it is still grown to some extent.
  • Hausa Potato is a small aromatic, semi-succulent plant producing erect stems that can be 30 - 100cm long from a tuberous rootstock.
  • It forms tuberous, starchy, edible rootstock like potatoes in clusters around the bases of the stems.
  • Hausa Potato needs well-drained soil, sun, and a pH in the range 6.5 - 7.5.
  • It take 5 - 7 months from planting to harvesting the tubers – The tubers are small and should be washed thoroughly to remove soil.
  • They are described as having a mild, slightly sweet, or aromatic flavour.
  • It can be stored for later use, but they may become darker with age.
