Description

• Perennial
• White carpet or Oortjies (meaning little ears), is endemic to the Eastern Cape and Western Cape of South Africa.
• It is a fast-growing, hardy, evergreen groundcover ideal for forming a dense, 5-10cm high green mat.
• White Carpet features glossy, slightly succulent, green to yellowish rounded leaves and produces white to pinkish, cup-shaped flowers from September to December, thriving in full sun or semi-shade.
• It can tolerate heat, drought and poor soil, despite its delicate appearance.
• White carpet is a wonderful indigenous daisy lawn and makes a beautiful feature during winter.
• It is the best groundcover to use especially because it grows very fast and can tolerate most harsh conditions.
• Excellent to plant between stepping-stones or as a useful filler or edging plant.
• Allow to trail over the edges of containers for a beautiful effect.
• White carpet can be used for soil stabilization.
• It is propagated from rooted runners - you can also divide sections of the plant with its roots.
• New plantings should be watered daily for a couple of weeks and the spacing between plants should be 30 -46 cm, as they spread fast.
• Dig up and divide plants every 3-4 years to stimulate healthy new growth.
• The flowers attract tiny insects to the garden that are useful to feed lizards and frogs.
