Description
- Perennial
- Passionflower is native to the southeastern United States and Central and South America.
- It is a fully hardy, fast-growing climber that is deciduous in cold areas.
- Passion flower has deeply 3-5 lobed, finely toothed leaves, to 15cm. long.
- Fragrant lavender to white flowers, to 7cm. across, appear in summer, followed by ovoid soft yellow edible fruits, to 5cm. long.
- It thrives in full sun with good drainage.

Medicinal Uses. It is said that
- Passion flower belongs to a large family of Passifloras which includes the granadilla.
- Passiflora incarnata is the only medicinal one.
- The leaf is used internally for nervous tension, anxiety, insomnia, irritability, tension headache, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, premenstrual tension, nervous tachycardia, hypertension, and shingles. Also to assist withdrawal from addictive drugs, including benzodiazepine and valium.
