Description
- Perennial
- September Bush is indigenous and occurs naturally from the Bokkeveld Mountains near Clanwilliam in the Western Cape to Kwazulu-Natal.
- Along this wide distribution area changing from winter to summer rainfall - Polygala myrtifolia varies in form as it changes to adapt to the different areas it grows in - from the harshness of the coast to the drier inland climates.
- September Bush is an evergreen shrub up to 0.6 to 1.8 m with slender branches densely covered with leaves that resemble myrtle.
- It bears abundant, mauve pea-like flowers almost all year round.
- September Bush can adapt to most gardens - suitable for coastal gardens, fynbos gardens, low maintenance and water-wise gardens.
- It is excellent as a fast-growing windbreak, hedge and colourful shrub able to grow in most soil types.
- September Bush responds well to light pruning and would need very little watering once established.
- It grows in sun or semi-shade but flowers best in full sun and makes an excellent container plant.
- Because of the non-invasive nature of its root system, this shrub is perfect for both large and small gardens.
- September bush is drought resistant and can withstand very mild frost.
