- Perennial
- Mugwort is native to, and widespread in Europe and throughout northern Asia from Russia to Japan and Korea.
- It was planted along the roadside by the Romans, who put sprigs in their sandals to prevent feet aching on long journeys.
- Mugwort flowers flavored beer before the advent of hops.
- ‘Oriental Limelight’ is a handsome variegated version of Mugwort.
- It forms an upright, bushy shrub with very attractive foliage.
- The leaves are a medium green and brightly splashed with creamy-yellow to ivory.
- It will grow in any soil in sun or partial shade and grow well in containers.
- Cut watering down to a minimum during winter.
- Trim back hard in late winter to rejuvenate the plant with new growth.

Medicinal Uses. It is said that
- Mugwort was one of the nine Saxon magic herbs.
- The Druids believed it to offer protection against evil and poisons.
- They used the leaves to make fumigant candle wicks.
- The Chinese used Mugwort in herbal tobacco's and traditionally it was used for treatment of neuroses, depression, insomnia and irregular or painful menstruation.
- It was a popular remedy for epilepsy and Parkinson disease.
- Today, mugwort is anthelmintic and expel parasitic worms like thread worm and roundworm.
- It is taken orally as an aromatic bitter digestive remedy to help digestive problems, irregular menstruation, and high blood pressure.
- People take mugwort root as a “tonic” and to boost energy.
- The aerial parts are used for stomach and intestinal conditions including colic, diarrhea, constipation, cramps, weak digestion, worm infestations, and persistent vomiting.
- It is also used to stimulate gastric juice and bile secretion.
- Mugwort has a lightly floral, bitter flavor and can easily be smoked on its own.
- It can give some folks lucid dreams, and it is a go-to herb for people who are actively trying to have more vivid or lucid dreams.
